Algebra Stars
In the first activity, students learn to read and recognize algebraic sentences as they sort equations into groups to match provided descriptions. Students advance their knowledge of the properties of number sets, use deductive reasoning skills, and engage in practice sessions to improve their algebra fluency.
In the second activity, students learn how to apply the different components of algebraic equations as they construct equations to satisfy conditions posed by randomly generated verbal sentences. Students progress from writing linear equations and inequalities through polynomial expressions and quadratic functions. These timed or untimed algebra tile games can be played competitively between students or against the program, with numerous rounds of play and competitive scoring. Students can gauge their skills by examining a printable report on how well they have performed for each problem set in both activities. A glossary is available throughout the program to help students precisely determine important terminology.
